When I was a kid, I was taught that you clean-up after yourself.  Thus, we present the following counter-advocacy:

The United States federal government should prohibit all reductions in restrictions and increases in incentives for nuclear power including plan

until it has expediently, proactively, and effectively reclaimed every unreclaimed or partially-reclaimed uranium mining operation.

This debate is not about the technical question of “how” something gets done but rather the ethical “why” of our motivation and political will.  We don’t know when or how uranium mines can be cleaned-up, but it should be an ethical pre-requisite to further advancement of the nuclear industry as a whole.  The plan should be conditioned on clean-up.

There is support for this among environmental justice advocates – mining companies should have to clean-up what they’ve left behind before we move forward with expansion of nuclear technology
